AOKK Bear Hug (Under and Around) Grip

AOKK Bear Hug (Under and Around) Grip

Implementation:

Block the attacker’s blows until you get inside. Shoot both arms under the opponent’s armpits. The arms can encircle the opponent’s chest. If you choose the encircled grip, tie-off to your wrists as you wrap your arms around the opponent. Squeezing can limit uke’s ability to breathe. This must be followed by a throw or takedown immediately because the opponent has two free hands and can easily strike you. You can also headbutt if you want to break the opponent’s balance backwards.

Rule:

If your hands are tied-up you must find other weapons and continue your attack.

Suggested Throws:

Morote-gari (Double-Leg Takedown) or Ura-nage (Front suplex) Yoko-wakare (Side Separation Throw), Uki-waza (Floating Technique)

Suggested Counters:

Sukui-nage (Leg Throw)

Note:

This grip can be made from the front or the rear. From this grip the attacker can bend their knees while lifting at your waist and throw you with Ura-nage (Front Suplex), and if it is made from behind the attacker can use a wrestling suplex. The Suplex is not taught in the AOKK, but the student should be aware of it.  If the grip is made to your rear, drop your body weight immediately. Also, the attacker’s hands are in front of you when placed in this grip, so break one of their fingers with a finger-lock if possible.
