[8.3.0] Seiuchin Section-8 Bunkai: (Counter to Single Lapel Grab)

Theory: When someone grasps your clothing, it is to control your movement. After they grab you, they will attempt to: throw you, push you into a wall, or strike you. The moment a person grabs you; you must initiate a counterattack. Hesitate and you’ve lost.
Part-1 Attacker: Grabs One Lapels
Part-2 Defender: Figure-four Lock and Throw
- Trap the attacker’s grasp with your left arm (LH).
- Palm strike the attacker shoulder with your free hand. (RH)
Note: This is to stop the attacker’s punch. A single lapel grasp, normally sets-up a punch.
- Rotate the shoulder and punch to the opponent’s solar-plexus. (RH)
Note: This is a loosening up technique.
- Place the attacker’s trapped arm in a figure-four lock. (RH)
- Rotate your shoulders while stepping in front of the attacker throwing the opponent with Tai-otoshi.
Note: In karate we use locks to set-up a throw. This is what differentiates karate from judo. The throw is not demonstrated in the kata. It is simply understood or hidden technique.
