[T6.11] Osoto-Otoshi: Variation-1 (Mjr Outer Drop with Figure-four Shoulder Lock)
[T6.11] Osoto-Otoshi: Var-1 (Body Drop with Figure-four Shoulder Lock)
Translation: (O) major, (soto) outside (otoshi) body drop
This is a variation of Osoto-gari, but your leg does not reap backwards. Catch uke in the bend of your knee and step backwards while pushing uke forwards. Again, this is an example of a lock being used as a set-up for a throw.
Warning: Do not attempt these techniques without a qualified AOKK instructor’s supervision.
AOKK Category:
- Reaps
Opening Technique:
When uke throws a circular punch, simultaneously block and punch, and then place them in an over the shoulder figure-four lock.
Execution:
- Once uke has been placed in the figure-four shoulder lock, step behind uke’s foot and trip him/her over your leg.
- Use the pain from the figure-four lock to break uke’s balance backwards. Once the majority of uke’s weight is on one leg they can be thrown more easily.
Grips:
- Figure-four shoulder lock
Warning: Never go to the ground if there are multiple opponents.
Note: Follow this technique with an arm-bar, mount above the hips, or simply walk away. If you choose the mount, follow immediately with open hand strikes, closed hand strikes, and elbow strikes. In sport you may choose to apply a choke or lock the opponent to gain a submission.
